Gruber talks about the importance of what they do as citizen scientists. Haye talks about a chick they watched for hours, then it fledged, and Susan Ahalt was called to help it, and it didn't survive. Haye says it is a sad letdown, but the whole experience is worthwhile. She describes the chicks when first hatched as tiny, tiny little white things...She describes the development of the chick as it grows and parents feed it. Gruber says the golden eagle adults are dedicated parents, as are most wild animals. He talks about how a grizzly sow is a dedicated parent. He talks about how the sow will protect its cubs. Then he says if there is food, the eagles will bring it to the chick. He says by the time the chick fledges, it is as healthy as it will ever be, because it was fed.
