Jesse Logan, a retired U.S. Forest Service entomologist, explains to the gathering how widespread the beetle kill is throughout the western U.S. He talks about how the scientific models predicted the kind of bark beetle destruction we are seeing decades ago. He says an outbreak in Canada has affected 30 million acres of lodgepole pine. He says what is happening here is much worse, because the beetle is taking out an entire ecosystem in the white bark pine. He says what we're experiencing now is not a weather event, it is a climate event. He predicts that most of the white bark pine in the Yellowstone ecosystem will be lost. He says the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service report of 16% loss of White Bark Pine is grossly incorrect. The audio on this clip is sometimes low. The video is very dark, because the photographer was not allowed to turn on a light.
