Cutaway footage shot for the Interview with Dr. Steven Running, who, as a member of the IPCA, is a Nobel Prize winner. Dr. Steven Running gives his name, and title: Regents professor of ecology at the University of Montana. Interview with Dr. Running who is commenting on global warming, and it's effect on the beetle kill that is destroying the white bark pines in the Yellowstone Ecoystem. Running's work shows that the glaciers in Glacier National Park will soon disappear. Running says the effects are real all over the world. He says that within 100 years, the biosphere will no longer function. He answer's the charge put forth by Leyton Steward, a geologist who says the climate change is natural, and has happened many times in earth's history. Running says it has never happened so fast before. He says we are playing Russian Roulette with the earth. He talks about hopes for the future, and says people are waking up to the problems with oil and petroleum based energy. Running says coal fired plants are the number one CO 2 emitters; and tells about some interesting ideas on recapture and below ground injection of CO2; and his favorite: bubbling the CO2 through walls of algae, which would eat the CO2, and generates a biodiesel feul, with a harvest cycle of 14 days. He says a system like this per acre would produce 10 to 100 times as much biodiesel feul as a corn crop, and uses much less water. He compliments T. Bone Pickens, who is planning to invest in green energy.
