Interview: Rice says she is concerned about the numbers that show a declining trend in the grizzly bear population. She says in 2014, there were 754 bears in the population. She says in 2015 it was 717, and in 2016, 690 bears. She says that doesn't include all the bears that died as a result of conflicts: 53. She says there were 61 mortalities in 2015, which doesn't include the ones they don't know about. She says the Sierra Club has 2.4 million members who care about grizzly bears in Yellowstone. She says many of them wrote comments against delisting. She says the proposed rules are not strong enough to keep these bears on the road to recovery.
